Medix FTP Service (the "Service") is designed to provide you with an easy way to transfer files relevant to the management of your case to Medix Medical Services Europe Limited ("Medix", "we" and "us").

Using the Service

 

In order to use the Service, you will be required to log in by submitting your member number which was provided to you by the Medix staff, your name and e-mail address. Once you have logged in, you will be able to upload files to the Service. Protection of your information

 

We take the safeguarding of your information very seriously. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure of your information we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and administrative procedures to safeguard and secure the files you upload to the Service. However, no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic data storage is 100% secure and while we have put in place appropriate protections, we cannot guarantee the security of information you upload to the Service.

 

Quality and availability of the Service

 

While we make reasonable efforts to provide the Service, it is provided "as is" with no representation, guarantee or warranty of any kind as to its availability, functionality, that it will meet your requirements or that it will be free of errors or viruses.

There are certain questions you need to ask your surgeon before undergoing surgery. Here's a list

Hundreds of millions of surgeries are performed annually around the world. The types of surgeries and the reason they are performed are diverse. While the options available differ regarding emergency vs. elective surgery there are certain questions you need to ask your surgeon before undergoing surgery.

 

 

Below is a list of questions that are important to have answered.

 

 What exactly is the problem? What is the exact medical terminology?

 

 Why is surgery necessary?

 

 Are there different surgical options available? If so, what type of surgery do you recommend?

 

 What are the medical names of the surgery options?

 

 What exactly is done during the surgery?

 

 What improvement can I expect to see after surgery?

 

 How long will the surgery itself take?

 

 What complications are possible with this surgery both during and after surgery? What are the risks? How likely are complications to occur?

 

 What is your training? How many of these surgeries have you done? What is your success rate?

 

 Will you yourself be performing the surgery or will one of your residents be the one operating?

 

 Is the surgery done under local or general anesthesia? Do you work with a particular anesthesiologist and if so which one? Can I choose my anesthesiologist? Will I meet the anesthesiologist before the day of the surgery?

 

 Is the surgery done on outpatient or inpatient basis? How long after the surgery will you need to stay in the hospital?

 

 What preparation do I need to do before the surgery? Do I need to have blood tests and/or an ECG done?

 

 Do I need to have clearance from any other physician like a cardiologist?

 

 How big will the incision be? Will there more than one incision? Is the surgery done laparoscopically?

 

 Are the stitches dissolvable or do they need to be removed? If they need to be removed when and where?

 

 What kind of pain can be expected after the surgery?

 

 What is the recuperation time?

 

 Will any kind of therapy be needed after surgery? If so what type of therapy (e.g. physical therapy, respiratory therapy) and for how long?

 

 What limitations will I have after the surgery and for how long?

 

 How long after the surgery is there a follow up visit?

 

 What will the surgery cost?


Having surgery performed is not something to be taken lightly. You need to understand why you are undergoing the surgery, the possible complications as well as what outcome you should expect.


Before meeting with your surgeon prepare yourself for the meeting. Research both the surgeon as well as the surgery. Come to the meeting with a list of questions and make sure your questions are all answered by the surgeon before you agree to the surgery.
When you know what to expect, you will feel more at ease with both the procedure as well as your surgeon.
